Story
The Modern Inquisition is a portrayal of a professor who is wrongfully accused by the administration of a college, which leads to him being fired, and the legal process that follows. The title 'The Modern Inquisition' refers to the time when the scientist Galileo was brought before the Roman Inquisition in 1633, accused of his research opposing the authority, in this case, the church.
Idea behind the book cover
The book cover is a reworked illustration of Galileo before the Roman Inquisition, painted by Cristiano Banti in 1857. The classic characters are set in a library that symbolizes knowledge and academia, while modern elements like a computer and a modern IKEA chair place them in a contemporary context.
Illustrations inside the book
The book begins with a poem about a birch, wich is a word play of the name of the main character, "Björk" (translation birch). The illustration tells the story about a birch, formed by the wind and a built up resilience.
